Nutrition Month: Extemporaneous Speeches

How will you demonstrate true spirit of sportsmanship among your peers?

In any game that you join, there are always two results, it’s either you win or you lose. Either way, you can still show the true spirit of sportsmanship to your peers.

The best thing that you should do in order to demonstrate the true spirit of sportsmanship when you win is by laying low or being humble to everyone else. Be nice to the persons who lost the game. Yes, being proud is good but being TOO proud is not nice. Consider what others might feel when you start boasting around. By being humble, you make yourself as an example to others.

In case you lose, the best thing to do in order to demonstrate the true spirit of sportsmanship is by accepting the result of the game. Instead of making it as a failure, make it as a lesson for you so that you can improve your strengths and alter your weaknesses. Don’t get too depressed of what happened, instead, think of it as a challenge for you.

The true meaning of sportsmanship is not about the result of the game, it’s about how you did it.

How will sports help young people be productive in the community?

Being involved in sports is an advantage to people not involved in it. You know why? It’s because there are many benefits that a person can get when he is involved in sports: not just physical benefits, but also psychological and social benefits which can make a person be productive in the community.

Let’s start with the most prominent benefit of sports, the physical benefits. Science shows that being involved in moving activities, such as sports, can improve the person’s body composition and strength. With this, young people involved in sports are active, can easily do certain tasks easily and also be productive in the community.

Another benefit of sports is the values we learn from it. When losing a game, a professional player knows that it’s not the end of his career, instead he thinks of it as a lesson for himself. In short, optimism and not easily giving up is learned through sports. When applied in real life, those values can be very helpful when a community project or program tends to fail. Being optimistic in that time makes the team work harder in order to have a better result.

Addictive drugs have been spread out to more and more people these days, even to minors. It has been a big problem to the government and to the society. Through sports, young people can use their free time in a productive activity, instead of having drugs. Even though not a direct benefit to the productivity of the community, but still it is a benefit that can help the community.

How will sports move you to highest form of learning?

When we talk about sports, the first words that come into our mind are throwing a ball through a hoop, kicking the ball, and running around the field, but actually, sports is not just about that. There are also benefits that we get from sports in order to move us to the highest form of learning that we are not consciously aware.

We all know that sports involve physical movements and that it can make us physically fit. Through sports, our body improves little by little. Even though sports is a tiring activity, the result of it to our body is that we will not get easily tired! And how does this help us in learning? We can easily understand all the things taught to us and be active in school. In that way, sports has helped us in our school performance.

The other benefits of sports which are really needed in learning are the values we learn from it. When a good player loses a game, he will not easily give up. Instead, he will persevere in order to win a game, and with that, patience is also needed. Perseverance and patience are very much important when it comes to learning. Most of the time, learning does not happen overnight, it needs time and perseverance in order to achieve it.

As an athlete, how will you develop your potentials/skills to the highest level?

There are many ways on how to develop your potentials/skills to the highest level. One is through practice. Practice really helps a lot when it comes to the development of your skills because it improves and enhances your strengths and makes you get a hang with what your sport is. And also, through practice, you can know your weaknesses and with that, you can change it into strength.

Another way of improving your skills is through a healthy lifestyle, meaning, you eat the right food with the right amount at the right time. An athlete should be responsible of his body! Eating unnecessary foods will really affect your skills and performance.

One way also of enhancing your potentials is by asking questions to today’s athlete and even former athletes. The purpose of this is to know the things they eat and do everyday in order to improve their performance.

Alarm ng alas singko, babangon ng alas sais
Ganyan ang mga eskwela kahit ‘di ninanais
Papagalitan pa ni mama para lang makapagbihis
Para makakain na at agad ay aalis.

Pagdating sa paaralan, assignment inaatupag
Kahit ‘di man aminin ngunit guro ay alam
Kopya dito, kopya doon, kopya kahit saan

Bawat buhay, masaya’t malungkot, magulo’t makulay
ay nakalimbag sa pahina ng kasaysayan;

kami’y palayain o bayan kong minamahal.

A, oo nga pala

Sila-sila’y nagtatagpo, kayu-kayo’y nagpapangkat
tayu-tayo’y nag-iisip, nagsusuri, bumabalangkas.

Isang diwa ang nagpasya, isang wika ang ginamit
wikang Filipino! Wikang maka-Diyos, makabayan, makatao.
wikang naglalagos sa isipang makabansa
wikang nanunuot sa damdaming makalupa.

At,
paisa-isang dila, parami-raming labi, sama-samang tinig
bumubulong, sumasatsat, humihiyaw, nagngangalit
hinihiling ay kalayaan! katarungan! katarungan! kalayaan!

Ah,
hanggang kailan susukatin?
hanggang kailan bubuhayin?
hanggang kailan maaangkin?

Layang mangusap, layang sumulat
layang mamuhay, layang manalig
layang humalakhak, layang maghimagsik
maghimagsik! maghimagsik! maghimagsik!

Kasaysayan pala’y mababago isang saglit
sa dakong silangan . . . doon sa silangan
ang sikat ng araw . . . sumilip, sumikat, uminit
naantig ang diwang inaliping higit
tumibok ang pusong dating di-humihibik
nagising ang ugat ng hapong mga bisig.
bawat isa’y nagkaisang mailantad sa daigdig
ang mga pang-aaping sugat niyaring dibdib.
sari-saring mukha, magkakabalat, magkakadugo, magkakapatid
sama-samang gumising, magkakapit-bisig, nag-alsa’t tumindig.
lakas ng tao! lakas ng bayan! lakas ng daigdig!
laban sa tirano, sa gahaman, sa mapanupil, sa mapanlupig.

Pangkat-pangkat, sama-sama. kapit-bisig bawat isa
kilala’t di-kilala, kaaway at di-kaaway, mayama’t mahirap,
matalino’t mangmang, aktibista’t militar.
nagkaisang ganap sa isang mithiing kapanga-pangarap.
propesyonal at di-propesyonal, manggagawa, kawani, guro,
mangangalakal, estudyante, iskolar, istambay, sundalo,
pulis, drayber, pari, madre, mangingisda’t magbubukid.
nagkaisa,nagkasama, nagkasama, nagkaisa.

Ang wikang ginamit? Wikang Filipino!
wikang ginagamit sa lahat ng dako
ma-Tagalog, ma-Cebuano, ma-Pangasinan, ma-Ilokano,
ma-Kapampangan, ma-Ilonggo, ma-Waray, ma-Bikolano
ma-Maranao, ma-Tausug, lahat ng ito’y Filipino!
wika ng pagkakaisa, kababayan ma’t dayo
wikang tagapagligtas ng digmaa’t gulo
wikang tagapagtanggol ng lahat ng tao.
